The 1950s were a magnificent time of glamour. Although vintage beauty routines varied, there were certain things ladies did in order to achieve their look.
First of all, hair tended to be nicely styled. Women could style their freshly washed hair in the evening with rollers, put on a cap and go to bed. They would slightly dampen their hair, follow a curl pattern for a certain style, place the curlers in their hair and place a cap on their heads. When they woke up in the morning, their hair would have a beautiful style. If they didn’t want to wait for their hair to curl overnight, they could use hair dryer helmets to set their curls quicker. Many women in the 1950s bleached their hair blonde; they also toned it certain shades with toners. They were trying to achieve the Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield look.
Eyeshadow colors weren’t very bold in the 1950s. Some women chose to only apply eyeliner and mascara. The cat eye look became popular. However, lips were bold in the 50s. A nice bright red or pink lipstick was certainly a staple of many makeup collections in that era.
Girdles were something women also wore in the 1950s to give themselves tinier waists. Many wanted to achieve that stunning hourglass figure, so they chose to wear such waist shapers in order to accomplish their goal.
